This week proved to be pretty basic. A few substitutions, a few schedule changes, but all in all pretty average. What a relief! It's so nice to have something to be able to call average. I think this means I am finally settling in. So I thought I would use this post to look take a closer look at one of my classes and share some good student quotes.
On Monday mornings from 8-9:35 in the morning I have the same three seminar students. They are third graders (seniors) and are taking this class to help them get ready for the Matura (school leaving exam). They will be graded on their reading, writing, listening, and speaking abilities. In addition to seeing them for this class, I also have them for their regular conversation lesson with the rest of their class. I have enjoyed working with them and getting to know them more personally. However, I often wonder what are the most productive exercises to help them. They are prep books, like for the SATs, but the problem is that all of the directions, and a lot of the prompts are in Polish. As the year goes on, I'm sure the other teachers will help me figure out what is the best thing to do. The plan for this Monday? The Matrix followed by a writing prompt.
And here are the top three student quotes from the week:
-"But I do not have a rubber." I've learned that in British English rubber means eraser. . .NOT a condom.
-This is what Artur said when I called on him to answer a question that another student had trouble with: "If she would have said something I would agree with it." So creative, still no points.
-"What does pooping mean?" They really did not know. Awkward moment.
So that is all for my average life today! Off to lesson plan and relax on this average Saturday!
Blessings,
Colleen
